Science Hotel x CBK R’DAM

At Science Hotel I discussed the role that science play in artistic practice, and how art relates to the complexity of society, knowledge, technology and science through talking to 3 artists about their projects:

Maud van den Beuken - 'Mapping the Sky'

EAT ART Collective member Alexander Geijzendoffer -'Powder to the People'

Daniela de Paulis - 'COGITO: in Space'.

As an introduction to the artists projects and artistic practice FILM PORTRAITS were made specially for this evening. I worked with visual artist and filmmaker Mirjam Somers and photographer Bas Czerwinski to create the film portraits.

Science Hotel x CBK Rotterdam was part of the program for the Science Festival 'Science Hotel' that took place in Hotel Nhow. Organised by the Erasmus University to celebrate their 105th anniversary.

First person I interviewed was Maud van den Beuken. Specifically about her project 'Mapping the Sky'. It
consists of a cartographic study of defining the sky as a space. For this project she collaborated with cartographer Falco Joosten to develop a method for defining the sky.

Alexander Geijzendorffer from Eat Art Collective.

Secondly, I interviewed Alexander Geijzendorffer from Eat Art Collective. The collective works on the public perception of food and the system around it by mixing information, criticism and personal experience. For Science Hotel we specifically focused on their long term research project 'Powder to the People' looking into the role that industrial food additives could play in domestic kitchen.

Thirdly, I interviewed Daniela de Paulis about her project ‘COGITO in Space’ . COGITO is an interdisciplinary hybrid narrative sending thoughts into outer space as radio waves. The project links brain-activity transmission to SETI through an ongoing interdisciplinary collaboration that includes a team of neuroscientists, engineers, astrophysicists and radio operators, among other specialists.
